You have a bad driving record, and a history of not following the rules (driving while your license was suspended) You are a very high risk to get into a collision, and as such, the cost of insurance will reflect the risk.

An SR- 22 is a Certificate of Financial Responsibility, which the state requires to prove that you have insurance. When you have a bad history, the state will not allow you to just say you have insurance, they require that you provide proof as a condition of having your driving privileges

http://www.geico.com/information/sr22-details/

You are going to have a hard time getting reasonably priced insurance, because of the risk that the insurance company is taking in covering you. No company really wants to insure high risk drivers, because they usually loose money on those drivers.

Sorry

Considering the age of the DWI, you would likely have to contact the police department or court where the DWI occurred. Depending on the office it may be able to be done over the phone. There is also the possibility that the paperwork could be gone for good. Many states did not go to electronic storage of DWI's until the late 90's.

a dwi is when someone has a Breath Acohol Content of .08 (the minimal illegal limit) or higher where as a DUI is where some one has a BrAC of .07 or lower. DUIs are commonly given out for vehicle accidents or to minors while driving.

Right after your court appearance you meet with a counselor and you can set it up with him to be able to drive to and from work. Mention this to the judge - it's quite common. If you get caught driving otherwise, you will lose that privilege and can lose the probation you will be on and actually go to jail.

Yes.

Public defenders don't usually put very much effort into their work, and will encourage you to go along with the prosecuter in order to shift the case through as rapidly as they can. There are probably exceptions but I've only seen them on television shows.

No, it won't extend the three year period you will have to report on SR22 form, but it will add more points to your license and perhaps drive your insurance rates even higher.

This is something that only the local school systems can answer. My suggestion is to call them and find out.
